Incredibly Strange Wrestling

Inspired by Mexican Lucha Libre stars like El Santo and The Black Shadow, creator Audra Morse managed the ISW for over ten years. The high-flying acrobatic wrestlers appeal to all ages with their antics and flamboyant costumes. The audience gets into the fray by throwing tortillas, a tradition that began at one of the ISW’s earliest performances. Punk bands such as Rancid, Fear, Royalty and The Briefs take to the ring between wrestling matches to display their own brand of lunacy. These images are of their second to last performance at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco in 2004. The portraits were captured on location while shooting their feature film El Presidente.
