I have been calling San Francisco home for years and love the progressive bubble I live in. I started my career shooting film on my sister's Canon AE-1 and still use it to this day. My favorite camera, however, will always be my Mamiya RZ-67.

I was born in El Salvador to Christian Palestinian parents — I know that makes my identity a little complex, but aren't we all part of a larger diaspora at this point?

I'm drawn to stories about identity, community, and the quiet, in-between moments that often go unseen. In 2008, I began documenting the cowboys at the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo in Oakland. That work, shot on medium-format film, became The New Black West, published by Chronicle Books in 2022.

Some of the artists who have shaped how I see and tell stories include Taryn Simon's The Innocents, Mary Ellen Mark's Falkland Road, Cindy Sherman's Untitled Film Stills, and Nan Goldin's I'll Be Your Mirror. I've had these books since photo school and return to them for inspiration again and again.

Based in San Francisco and the world, really :)
